Why Hire a Doula?
Imagine going through an experience in which you are in a great deal of pain, helpless to stop it, confused about the words that medical professionals are throwing at you and completely overwhelmed by the complex emotions that your ordeal is stirring in you.
Now imagine having someone with you who can calm your fears, take away some of the pain, explain the confusing medical terms and be on your side at all costs. For the past 11 years, I have had the awesome opportunity to be that person for hundreds of laboring women through my job as a birth doula.
A birth doula is someone who provides emotional and physical support to an expecting mother and family during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. Part of the role of the doula is to encourage and pamper the new mother as well as to calm any fears she and her partner may have.
The first step in being a birth doula is having a passion for childbirth and an unwavering belief that every woman is entitled to experience the birth of their child in ANY way that they choose. Equally important is the belief that the birth process is often just as emotional for the partner as it is for the birthing woman and that they need to be treated with understanding and respect.
My name is Laurie Crone and I have been a birth and postpartum doula since 1995. I am passionate about childbirth and helping to create an experience that will be cherished forever! There is nothing more exciting than the birth of a child and it is my goal to make each birth that I help with a memorable and positive experience!
